Latest Secret Sound Contests in Australia


As of 23 July 2024, here's a sample of the Secret Sound contests you can enter in Australia. 

Many have a cash prize and you can listen to the station by online streaming, but make sure you read their terms and conditions before you enter to make sure you are eligible.

5MU, a South Australian Radio Station based in Murray Bridge, is currently running a secret sound competition with the added bonus that you can hear the sound online here.

River 94.9 in Queensland is running a secret sound contest with chances for you to win instant cash, but you'll have to listen to their Breakfast or Drive programs. Details here.

3BA 102.3FM based in Ballarat Victoria publish their Secret Sound online, and you have to call the station at a specific time for your chance to win a cash prize as per the details here.

2TM based in Tamworth NSW play their secret sound each weekday at 8:10 am. Details here.

7HOFM in Hobart Tasmania bill their Secret Sound as "Hobart's Ultimate Ear Test".  If no one guesses correctly, the prize jackpots by $20 each day until someone does. Details here.

Based in Maroochydore, Queensland, Zinc 96 also gives you a chance to win instant cash if you can work out their secret sound, details here.

In NSW, Lismore's 100.9 ZZZ FM has up to $1,000 as a prize for their secret sound contest - details here

The secret sound contest is an old staple of radio stations around the world.

The presenter plays an obscure sound, and offers you money as a reward if you phone in and guess the source of that sound.

Often these sound are obscure. Really obscure!

However, the rewards can be high. Some stations offer over $10,000 and the winning amount goes up every day that the sound remains a mystery.

There's also been controversy: for example, in the UK the media regulator Ofcom fined GCap Media, owners of Capital Radio and Classic FM, 1.11 million pounds for operating a secret sound competition ... that no-one could win!
