Manipulate the sound

Most secret sound competitions will have an associated web page where you can play the sound.

Once you have found that page, you often can download the sound as an MP3 or other audio file.

If it's not obvious how, in your web browser you can 'view source' (or view "page source") of the web page and search the HTML code for a reference to the sound file.

Once you have saved the code on your hard drive, you can use a free audio program like Audacity to manipulate the sound.

Slow it down, cut it up into its separate parts, stretch it.

Use the audio program to get a better idea of the sound you are trying to guess.

Sometimes listening back to the changed sound can give you the edge on other people trying to guess that sound.
